Milestone 2: Feeding on his own

We are not even close to having Joey feed on his own yet, but here is an update:

Two days after his birth day (last Wednesday), the nurses put in a feeding tube to be able to give Joey breastmilk. He started off with only 5 CC's (1/6 of anounce) per feeding. They bumped him up to 10 CC (1/3 of an ounce) per feeding on Thursday. Then, up to 15 CC (0.5 oz) on Friday, but he wasn't digesting that quick enough so they took him down to 12 CC on Saturday. Then on Sunday, I came into the hospital and they told me that they bumped Joey up to 17 CC because he was starting to fuss right before his feeding and really showing cues when he was ready to eat. He was having regular bowel movements, which tells us that he is digesting his milk well. (what is going in, is coming out).

As of today, he is now up to 1 whole ounce per feeding! We introduced Joe to a bottle today and he successfully took a small amount orally! We don't expect that Joey will start nursing for a couple more weeks, but suffice it to say, the boy is starting to eat!
