Today, our little guy is officially one month old! We can hardly believe it. It has been a turbulent month as Scott and I adjusted to parenthood. Jake has brought us many joys that outweigh the challenges.
We visited the doctor when Jacob hit 2 weeks old. At that time, he made it back up to his birth weight plus an additional 1/2 lb. He also shrank about 1/4 inch. We assume this is due to the fact that his head rounded off, eliminating his cone head from after birth. After the 2 week mark, we introduced Jacob to a pacifier and a bottle. We had no problems with Jacob taking the bottle, but he wasn't quite sure about the pacifier.
Jacob loves laying on his belly while on my dad or Scott's belly. This bonding time allows for Jake to get his tummy time and he has been doing a great job in lifting his head and turning his head over from side to side. Also, within the last week, when I place my finger in Jake's palm, he grasps it with increasing strength. Our little one is getting strong!
Jake has created his own night schedule where he is asleep by 8 or 9 and wakes to eat at 12 am and 3:30/4 am. My parents were with us for Jake's first 3 weeks so my mom volunteered for the early morning feeding. Since my parents left, Jacob has struggled to get a rested sleep after the 4 am feeding. This forces me to attend to him every hour to re-swaddle him or give him his pacifier.
But all the sleepless mornings are worth it! He has brought us such joy. We have been so blessed to have Jacob come into our life.
