First stop: Dubuque, IA.
We hit the road bright and early Saturday morning and only had to stop once to feed Jacob. He was such a champ! He slept the whole way, except for the last hour where he played with his toys nicely. The Burchette siblings came in town on Sunday for an early Thanksgiving dinner. The guys played football in the backyard all afternoon while dinner was cooking away. Jacob had a great time playing with his cousins. It was great way to start the holiday!
Since Scott's older brother and family couldn't come up to Dubuque for the family dinner, we made plans to stop and visit.
Second stop: Davenport, IA
Grandma Carol surprised Bailey and Tanner for their Grandparent's Day at school. Unfortunately, Jacob needed his nap so we couldn't go with her, but we hung out at their house while we waiting for the kids to come home.
All of us headed to the fire station to visit with Ronnie Joe while he was at work. It was neat to hang out at the station for a little bit and let Jake sit in the fire truck. When he is a little older, we will be sure to come back so that he can truly appreciate it the lights and sirens.
After our visit at the Davenport Fire station, we headed east.
Third stop: Oak Forest, IL
This was our stop for the night. My cousins, Marcy and Phil, haven't met Mr. Jacob yet so we thought it would be a good (but short) visit. We spent a couple of hours visiting before hitting the sack. It was a Tuesday night and everyone had to work the next morning.
In the morning, we headed into Downtown Chicago to meet my brother... he was hitching a ride with us to Detroit.
Fourth Stop: Sterling Heights, MI
Typically the drive from Chicago to Detroit only takes 5 hours. We had to stop a few more times than desired so it us much longer. We arrived on Wednesday night, which was also my Dad's birthday. We celebrated with good old Surf n' Turf!!! Yum!
Over the last 5 years, I have been cooking Thanksgiving dinner. This year was no different. I spent all day cooking a dinner that we ate in less than 30 minutes! Oh my! But we have so much to be thankful for this year that we cannot forget what we were supposed to be celebrating. Friday morning, my mom and I braved the crowds and headed out to the malls. In all actuality, it wasn't bad at all! That could be because we avoided Best Buy this year...
Bright and early Saturday AM, we packed up the car and started heading back. It was a quick trip so we weren't able to visit with everyone we wanted to :(
